Gelar Batik Nusantara is held to, mainly, celebrate those differences while also promoting Batik to the domestic and international market. History
Gelar Batik Nusantara (GBN) is an event held by Yayasan Batik Indonesia to promote batik as original Indonesian culture. This exhibition was first held in 1996, and 2019 marks its 11th edition of the event.
Where and when
GBN will be held from May 8th to 12th 2019 in Plenary, Main Lobby, and Assembly Hall of Jakarta Convention Center. The daily exhibition normally starts at 10.00 to 21.00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). There will be lots of batik fashion shows, music performances, talk show, and book discussion.
The theme
This year’s edition brings out the theme of ‘Lestari Tak Berbatas’ (Unlimitedly Sustainable). The theme will be reflected in the many talk show held in this exhibition. There will be talks about how to take care of your batik cloths, batik’s relevancy in today’s generation, and a workshop about the many types of batik.

You can definitely learn a lot about batik in this exhibition. You can also see that there are many kinds of batik from different parts of the country. Most of the attendants will also gladly help and explain to you about their batik. If you really want to dig deep, you can attend the talk shows during Gelar Batik Nusantara 2019.
