Sate or satay is a food that can be found in many places in the western part of Indonesia. However, each place has its own characteristics, including in Bali. Here are some delicious satay that you can find in Bali.
Sate Lilit
Sate lilit is the most famous type of satay from Bali. The main ingredient of sate lilit is fish meat that has been mashed and then mixed with grated coconut. The mixture of the two ingredients is then wrapped around a skewer made from coconut fronds or lemongrass.
The skewer size used in sate lilit is bigger than other satays. The spices used in this satay are also different from other satay, which usually use peanut and soy sauce. You can try this food in Sate Lilit Tuna Klungkung located on Jalan Bungin, Pedungan, South Denpasar, Denpasar.
Sate Susu Sapi
This is a type of satay that is very unique and barely found anywhere else in Indonesia. Sate Susu Sapi is made from the nipple of a cow. The nipples are cut into small dice pieces then boiled and treated with special spices.
This satay also doesn’t use peanut sauce and soy sauce that is commonly found on other satays. Sate Susu Sapi uses sauce made from rice flour and coconut milk mixed with various spices such as garlic, chili, and kencur (aromatic ginger). You can try this food in Warung Sate Nikmat that is located at Desa Wanasari, Denpasar Barat.
Sate Kakul
This is also a satay made from unique ingredients. Sate kakul is a satay made from rice snails (Pila Ampullacea). You can find a lot of sate kakul stalls in the Ubud area which has a vast expanse of rice fields. Kakul meat has a texture that is relatively tougher than other meats but with a distinctive delicious taste. You can try this food at Warung Sate Kakul located on Jl. Raya Kangetan, Singakerta, Ubud, Gianyar Regency.
Sate Babi
Quite simply, sate babi is satay with pork as the main ingredient. This meat has a softer texture than lamb or beef. After being skewered and grilled, the satay is gargled with peanut seasoning that gives its sweet, savory and spicy flavor. Sate babi is usually enjoyed together with ketupat (rice cake). You can try this food at Sate Babi Bawah Pohon at Jl. Campuhan I – Dewi Sri No.IV, Legian, Kuta, Badung Regency.
Sate Languan
At a glance, Sate Languan is rather similar to sate lilit. However, sate languan is made exclusively using tuna and sometimes the meat is not grounded. Sate languan is usually enjoyed with pepes tuna, spicy fish soup, sambal matah, long bean, and rice. You can try this food at Sate Languan on Jl. Raya Ubud No.51, Petulu, Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali.
Sate Plecing
This satay is actually an ordinary satay that is treated with different spices. Satay normally uses peanut and soy sauce, but this one uses plecing seasoning. The seasoning is made with a mixture of shrimp paste, pecan, chili, and garlic. It will taste great with a drop of lime juice. You can enjoy this delicacy at Sate Plecing Mak Lukluk, located on Jl. Raya Puputan No.210A, Renon, South Denpasar, Denpasar City.
