Samas Beach is one of the many beaches in the southern shore of Yogyakarta. As with many other beaches in Yogyakarta, Samas Beach is characterized by powerful waves and strong wind. Even so, this place is very popular among the youth in Yogyakarta.

Samas Beach is characterized by its many deltas, its freshwater lake by the beach, and the rare turtles. Samas is also popular for the beautiful flower garden at its gate. Some say that Samas Beach offers a complete affordable holiday experience if you consider all attractions nearby. Here is what you need to know about Samas Beach.

Location

Samas Beach is located roughly 33 km from the city of Yogyakarta. The road to the beach is also quite good and can be reached in approximately an hour by private vehicle. The entrance fee is also very cheap, only IDR 5,000 per person. There isn’t any additional fee, except maybe for parking fee if you drive your car or motorcycle to get to this beach.

Pesona Pengklik

Depending on how you name it, there is a lagoon or large freshwater pond just by the beach. It is called Pesona Pengklik. This lagoon is an important place for local people as they farm their fish there. It is a quite large lagoon, entirely protected from the sea. However, it is not swimmable as the water are murky due to the fishery activities there.

There is a bamboo bridge splitting the lagoon. This bridge is functional but is mostly used for taking selfies. Built by local people, you have to pay IDR5000 to use this bridge. If you are into photography, this bridge is a wonderful spot to aim your camera to.

Old Rituals

The community living near Samas Beach has an old ritual. In essence, it is similar to many Sedekah Laut ceremony you can find in almost all parts of Java. People express their gratitude to God for the livelihood and blessings they have received throughout the year. There are two ceremonies held every year; Labuhan Sedekah Laut and Kirab Tumuruning Maheso Suro.

Flower Garden

There is a beautiful flower garden near the entrance of Samas Beach. The Resoinangun Garden offers not only the well-kept beautiful garden but also a wonderful view of the area. From this garden, you can see a vast rice field and several selfie platform.

This garden has a great collection of celosia, sunflower, and many other flowers species. Entrance fee to this garden is only IDR5000.

Nearby Attractions

There are several beautiful places you can find near Samas Beach. Goa Cemara and Pandansari Beach just a kilometer or so to the west. To the east, you can find Parangkusumo Beach and its beautiful sand dunes. You can also climb the Kalajivamasti Lighthouse nearby.
