In Sekotong District, there are many small islands with their own beauties. Many foreign tourists refer to these islands as Secret Gilis. Gili means island in the local language. Gili Asahan, Gili Tangkong, Gili Sudak, Gili Nanggu, Gili Gede, Gili Kedis, and Gili Poh.

Each Gili has its own charms. Gili Kedis, for example, is a small island that you can explore entirely on foot in just a few minutes. However, this island is so beautiful with its white sand and rock formations in the middle. In a way, the island is like an oasis in the middle of the ocean.

Surfing at Bangko-bangko

Sekotong is not just about exotic small islands. Although it is not well known, this area also has one surfing paradise that has been recognized worldwide. Desert Point Beach, or often referred to as Bangko-bangko Beach by locals, has been known as one of the most challenging surfing spots. It is even included in the world’s top 10 favorite surfing spots.

The waves here generally don’t break until the shore. Coupled with the tall waves themselves, Bangko-Bangko Beach is a great destination for surfers from all around the world.

Sekotong also has many spots for snorkeling and diving. The first impression when you take the plunge and explore the beauty of the underwater in Sekotong is how natural and preserved coral reefs are in this area.

There are many spots that you can choose; some spots are ideal for beginners, some others are for experienced divers. If you are lucky, you will also be able to meet with mantas, sharks and some other unique reef critters.

There are many beautiful beaches on Sekotong. Some of the beaches are on small islands surrounding the Peninsula, some others are on the main island’s coastline. You can try exploring Mekaki Beach, Batu Surat, Elaq-Elaq, Buwun Mas, Teluk Panggang, Belongas Bay, or Pandanan.

Most of the beaches here are still quite quiet because they are not as popular as Senggigi or Kuta Lombok. The good news is that you can enjoy the beaches in its natural state and will never be overcrowded.
