When you consider visiting Bali, you probably think of wonderful beaches where you can relax and sunbathe. Or when you feel like riding that wave, you can just easily plop yourself and your surfboard to the ocean. If you have that imagery, you probably thinking of Kuta.

Kuta is located in the western coast of Bali Isthmus, just minutes away from the main airport in Bali; The Ngurah Rai International airport. This area is the most popular resort on this paradise island with its long strip of white sandy beach that encompasses several area like Seminyak and Legian. Kuta used to be a peaceful fishing village but the rocketing rise of tourism industry has transformed this area into a tourist’s heaven.
Relaxing surf at Kuta Beach
The Kuta Beach has white sandy shore with nice wave. Most people come here to sunbathe or enjoying the sunsets on its relaxing sands. Many tourists started the trend to surf in Kuta years ago and it catches up, especially among Australian Tourists. This area is simply a perfect heavenly resort to spend your day.
Spend your night at Legian Street
Kuta is known for its lively crowd and budget stays, Seminyak is known for its luxurious resorts, while Legian is popular for its night life. Apart from its beach, tourists flock Legian for its lively night life. Rows of art shops, bars, hotels, and night clubs make Legian the main destination for tourist to spend their evening after a day on the beach. Bar hopping and clubbing is possible in this area.
Seminyak Beach, where most posh resorts are located
Seminyak is located to the north of Kuta and today is known to be the place for its upmarket accommodation and amenities. Just like Kuta, Seminyak is also known as a great surfing spot and its wonderful sunsets. However, the undercurrent can be really strong here so this area is mostly for surfers with advanced skills. With so many luxury rooms and spas, Seminyak is definitely not a place to stay for backpackers.
Pay your respect at Ground Zero Memorial
The 2002 Bali Bombings that occurred in Kuta killed 202 people and injured hundreds more, mostly tourists. A memorial was built on the bombing site, formerly Paddy’s Pub on Legian Street. The black marble memorial is carved with the victims’ names. Many tourists, not necessarily related to the victims, pay their respects and leave flowers in this well maintained memorial.
Exploring Kuta area is a must when visiting Bali. Located just next to the airport, Kuta area is extremely popular among tourists. Here you can find wonderful beaches, good surfing spots, world class amenities, and a bustling nightlife. The accommodation here ranging from budget friendly for backpackers to highest end of suites.
Note that this area can be extremely crowded. It’s not just the touristy objects that are flocked, the traffic congestion can be really bad. If you prefers a secluded tropical paradise, this area might not be for you. Next
