In term of tourism, the Southwestern part of Lombok is known mostly for its beautiful small islands (gilis). They are not as popular as the three Gilis on the northwest (Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan), but the area has a serious potential to be a world class destination.

Sekotong District, in particular, is a wonderful place to enjoy many islands and beaches. Sekotong is a peninsula located on the west, almost reaching the Nusa Penida of Klungkung, Bali. Mekaki Beach is one of the beautiful beaches you can find in Sekotong.
Where in Sekotong is Mekaki Beach?
Most of the beautiful islands in Skotong is located to the north of the peninsula. The Gilis are scattered on the northern shore, easily accessible from the peninsula. Mekaki Beach, however, is located on the southern shore. This area is admittedly not the easiest place to reach as the road are not yet well developed.
Mekaki is roughly 40 kilometers away from Mataram City, but since you cannot drive in full speed, you might need roughly two hours to reach this area. However, you will admire the natural beauty of Sekotong along the road. Administratively, Mekaki Beach is located on Jl. Raya Mekaki, Pelangan, Sekotong Tengah, Lombok Barat Regency.
Mekaki Hills
Before you even reach the beach, you will have to go through hilly area; the Mekaki Hills. Even if you are excited to play on the beach, it will be hard not to enjoy the general scenery of these hills. There are lush green forests as well as rice fields that will invite you to look, and take pictures if you are into photography. As with any hills, the road you will have to endure is meandering and rather challenging.
The Beach
First of all, Mekaki Beach is not a popular destination in Lombok. You will barely see other tourists when you reach this place. You can enjoy the white sand stretch calmly, without having to worry about vying for the best spot in the beach with other tourists. The beach is very long and you most probably will get a big part of it for yourself most of the days.
The crescent-shaped beach has a rather calm waters because it is protected by to hills on each side. It means that you can either swim or snorkel should you feel like it. You are free to roam and explore the whole place if you have the energy for it.
Barely any facility
Apart from the good road leading to the beach, there is not much else you can find in this beach. There are food stalls here and there, but that’s about it. There is barely any decent accommodation nearby, so you’d better prepare your own food and drinks when you visit this beach. Beaches can be very hot, never expose yourself to the danger of dehydration.
Mekaki Beach is a great secluded retreat you need to visit when you are in Lombok. There are few beaches this size that can offer the beauty as well as serenity like Mekaki Beach. Next
