Location
Administratively, Mount Tangkuban Perahu is situated in the Cikole Village, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency. The volcano is located on the border between West Bandung Regency and Subang Regency.
From the center of Bandung City, this mountain is only about 20 kilometers away. It’s just that the time needed to reach the top of the mountain will be a little longer because the terrain is quite challenging.
The legend of Tangkuban Perahu
According to the legend that’s being passed down through generations of the Sundanese community, Tangkuban Perahu was created from an upside down boat. The legend says that Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi, who without his knowledge was his own mother. Dayang Sumbi knew that and ask for impossible stipulations if Sangkuriang wants to marry her.
Sangkuriang eventually failed to meet the requirements. Frustrated by his failure, Sangkuriang was angry and kicked the boat he made himself. The boat all upside down and turned into Mount Tangkuban Perahu.
Lots of craters
The main attraction of Tangkuban Perahu Mountain are the nine craters, some are still geologically listed as active craters. The names of the craters are Domas Crater, Ecoma Crater, Jarian Crater, Jurig Crater, Lanang Crater, Pangguyangan Badak Crater, Ratu Crater, Siluman Crater, and Upas Crater.
The three most popular craters are Domas, Ratu, and Upas. Ratu Crater is the largest on this mountain and shaped like a giant bowl.
Green vegetation
On the slopes of Tangkuban Perahu, you can also find lovely tea plantation. This is the Lembang Sukawana tea plantation, owned by PTPN VIII. If you are done enjoying the craters at Tangkuban Perahu and want to enjoy the freshness of exploring the tea plantation here, you only need to pay a ticket of IDR 2,000. You can even see several waterfalls in this are like Curug Tilu, Curug Bugbrug, and Curug Putri Layung.
