Location and access

The main entry point of the park is from Pangkalan Bun. You can get to this town easily as there are daily flights from several major cities to Iskandar Airport, Pangkalan Bun. Normally, you charter klotok boat for the whole exploration of Sekonyer River and beyond. This exploration, cruising through the beautiful nature, will get you to the most beautiful spots in the park. Usually, you will spend a couple of days on the boat. That is why the boats have basic accommodation such as a bed, kitchen, and seating area.

Orangutan Conservation at Camp Leakey

One of the most prominent conservation camps for orangutans is at Camp Leakey. This camp was founded in 1971, mainly to reintroduce the rescued orangutans. Many of them are rescued from domestic capture. Today, the camp has become a research center for orangutans. The camp got its name from Dr. Louis Leakey, the mentor of one of the camp founders; Professor Birute Galdikas.
